Fire Door Surveys

What Our Fire Door Surveys Cover

Fire doors play a critical role in protecting life and property by preventing the spread of fire and smoke within a building.
However, fire doors are only effective if they are correctly installed, maintained, and regularly inspected. Britannica Safety Ltd provides professional fire door surveys to assess the condition and functionality of fire doors within your premises.
Our surveys help organisations identify defects, maintenance issues, and compliance concerns so that appropriate remedial actions can be taken. Our inspections support the Responsible Person in meeting their duties under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which requires fire safety measures to be maintained in an efficient state and in good working order.
During a fire door survey, we carry out a non-intrusive inspection of each fire door to assess key components, including: Door leaf condition and damage Door frame integrity and fitting Door gaps and clearances Intumescent strips and smoke seals Hinges and ironmongery Self-closing devices and door operation Glazing panels and fire-rated glass Door signage and identification Evidence of fire door certification labels or plugs General condition and maintenance requirements Following the inspection, a clear report is provided detailing any issues identified and recommended remedial actions.

Frequently asked Questions

What is a Fire Risk Assessment?
A Fire Risk Assessment is a systematic evaluation of your premises to identify fire hazards, assess the level of risk to occupants, and determine the measures required to comply with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. It is a legal requirement for most non-domestic premises in the UK.
How often should a Fire Risk Assessment be reviewed?
Fire Risk Assessments should be reviewed regularly and updated when there are significant changes to the building, occupancy, layout or fire safety systems. Higher-risk environments such as care homes and healthcare settings typically require more frequent review.
Are you third-party accredited?
Yes. Britannica Safety Ltd is BAFE SP205 Tier 3 (NAFRAR Nationally Accredited Fire Risk Assessors Register) certified and SSAIB approved for fire risk assessment, providing independent third-party assurance of competence and quality.
Do you provide Health & Safety risk assessments?
Yes. In addition to fire risk assessments, we provide comprehensive Health & Safety risk assessments and compliance-led consultancy across a range of sectors including health and social care, education, commercial and industrial environments.
What is BAFE?
BAFE SP205 certification provides independent third-party assurance that our Fire Risk Assessments are carried out competently and in accordance with recognised industry standards. As part of our assessments, we review fire detection and alarm systems designed and maintained to current standards such as BS 5839-1:2025, ensuring they are appropriate for the level of risk within the premises. BAFE certification confirms that our assessments are consistent, professionally audited and focused on protecting occupants through proportionate, standards-aligned fire safety management.
Why does Tier 3 ceritifiction matter?
Government guidance under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires that Fire Risk Assessments are carried out by a “competent person.” However, competence is not self-declared — it should be demonstrable. BAFE SP205 Tier 3 (NAFRAR Nationally Accredited Fire Risk Assessors Register) certification provides independent third-party verification that a company meets recognised professional and quality management standards for Fire Risk Assessment, including more complex and higher-risk premises. This gives duty holders assurance that their assessment has been independently audited and carried out to an accredited standard.
